The Green Tide, # 1

It was inevitable, given their extensive, powerful, and lasting presence in the metaverse, that greenskins, or more accurately The Horde, would enforce its claim on the fabric of reality. At that time when the bid for power began, there was a well-established and re-occurring meta-presence of these types of creatures.

It seemed to be well understood that there was an alliance among orcs, goblins, trolls, ogres, and a number of beasts they seemed to have a natural affinity for.

Many denizens of the metaverse flocked to align themselves with this horde, which seemed to offer a vengeful alternative to those dissatisfied by the powers who represented law and order. Promising glory and wild freedom, many were those seduced by the savage beauty of The Horde.

Unbeknownst to the Horde at large, Artheus the Doll Mage, who was starved for ley energies, discreetly killed off small bands of the Brutes and collected the ley power that was released from their slain bodies. He knew he couldn't do it for long before attracting the wrath of the entire Horde, but as a recent arrival in this realm, he badly needed life energies to feed himself, his wife, and his growing collection of dolls.

The Horde's wrath was misdirected at another hapless victim when the bodies of the slain were discovered, and life was cheap among greenskins. Their savage freedom and disregard for the lives of their enemies translated to general pitilessness among themselves, and soon those slain by the Doll Mage were forgotten.

Were the Brutes to be forgotten in the final history of the meta? Would they be left behind, merely remembered as an obstacle to be overcome by nobler races? Hundreds of ambitious denizens of the Meta hungry for glory sought to forge The Horde into a proud race of warriors, respected and feared by all throughout the metaverse. Whatever the potential of the Horde, there was already a firm presence of greenskins to work with for those who sought their power. For the nonce, the Brutes were a melting pot, where numerous visionaries of the Horde vied for control of the direction of this numerous (and dangerous) faction.
