The Greater Good, # 1

If we're being honest, one of the most influential factions of the Metaverse will be none other than the Tau from WH40k. Representing the secularist ideals of recent history, they are all firmly grounded in their doctrine of the Greater Good. The Tau were a combination of caste system, secular humanism, and communism— though they scoff at superstition, they adhere to what they call the Greater good with religious fervor. It would all be easy to besmirch if they weren't at the cutting edge of technological advancement.
The Tau enforce their presence on the Metaverse by claiming to represent unity, co-existence, scientific advancement, prosperity, efficiency, and enlightenment. Those who yearned to find something worthy of their devotion (yet rejected religion) were happy to align themselves with the Tau, otherwise known as The Cadre. They were religious adherents to a doctrine they believed would ensure a bright future, yet they specifically disavowed religions of all kinds.
As such, communists, utilitarians, secular-humanists, and other groups that idolized the sciences were ready to adopt the Meta -faction of the Tau. Peoples from the Orient such as China were culturally conditioned to favor the values of the Tau, being raised to favor their own version of the Greater Good, rejecting spirituality and obsessed with efficiency and scientific progress. As such, the Tau became an influential faction.
The Meta of The Cadre lost members who desired alternative religions, such as Buddhism, and those who were perpetually holding out for something they deemed worthy of themselves. However, they gained many enthusiastic adherents from those who were not actually familiar with the original lore. In addition, many of the Schemata of Psykers were found supporting the Tau faction, as it allowed them to exercise their psi powers so long as it was oriented under the auspice of Science.
Unsurprisingly, the Tau were met with resistance when they enforced their presence upon the Meta. Intractable enemies with those who believed in the supernatural, they were eager to establish the superiority of their way of life. They indeed sent numerous students to Havenforth University, the college located at the nexus of all worlds, if for nothing else to gather mountains of information from the study of other denizens of the Metaverse. The idealistic claims of the Greater Good would seduce many throughout the Meta.
