Rise of The Rat, # 1
Rumored to have entered the metaverse by sheer force of will, the character known as The Rat gained a foothold across the multiverse. In this context, the Multiverse refers to many individual worlds, whereas the Metaverse refers to everything existing in the same universe. As such, The Rat enforced his presence wherever there were rats, and had the ambition of uniting all of rodent-kind as a single, sovereign people.
It was assumed by most that, because his species were always simply there to be exterminated, that The Rat would inevitably see his downfall against nobler denizens of the metaverse.
Whatever their opinion, The Rat intended to use the assets he was given, which for the nonce was nominal authority over a numerous, shrewd, and tenacious animal. Silently the Rat would regard the boasting of other races, waiting patiently to strike when it seemed best to him. Would he squander his advantages, waiting for the right opportunity?
It was against the nature of his species to risk their hides. However, rats existed in great numbers despite the world's intention to wipe them out; meanwhile, the lions of this world required the protection of humans to stay alive. Who then, was weak?
The rodentkin intended to carve a fat piece of the metaverse for themselves. Many thought they would be easy prey, only to be overwhelmed or outwitted by a race intent on evolving with the rest of the metaverse. Using their keen intellects, they devised ways to thwart would-be predators.
However, The Rat was not purely militaristic. He sent scores of rodentkin to attend Havenforth University, the academy located at the nexus point of all worlds. Among the people attending Havenforth U was Fratley Silvertail, the champion of all ratkin. He was adept in all kinds of melee weapons, and his combat abilities were a sight to behold; but he did not pursue HU for the purpose of conquest alone. He was there to represent all of rodentkind, perhaps as a velvet glove for a race that did not fall ill at the prospect of conquest.
