Meta, the Next Frontier
In actuality, even those who don’t have much imagination will experience the Meta, but probably not in a good way. In ordinary stories, boring people die and interesting people live. Loathsome people are punished, beautiful people are rewarded. The nature of Meta is that people can only contribute whatever is intrinsic to their own character. That means if you’re self-centered, the best you will be able to do is draw yet more attention to yourself— yet as the metaverse expands, people become more like the ultimate version of themselves… if you are boring, it will become more and more obvious that you are boring. If you are wicked, it will become more and more obvious that you are wicked. People will polarize into their various tribes and factions— Meta will eventually cause people to become the final version of themselves. That means if you are going to make peace or war with another person, faction, or tribe, it will take place in the Meta.
Where is the evidence that we will experience this so-called metaverse? In truth, it has been in the making for some time now through the power of memes— targeted and well-crafted memes can create experiences in the Meta, though in the beginning stages it is chaotic and primitive. Generally, memes are a way to express the humor or feelings of an individual in a direct way: this means the individual is doing no more than what he feels like doing through the use of memes. However, if the memes are engineered to affect the dreamscape of viewers, they are affecting what will ultimately become a presence in the metaverse. That means when the purpose of memes is no longer a reaction or the spread of an idea, but to alter a dreamscape, memes alone have the power to establish a presence and interact with the meta. Who knows? Maybe you’re firing lasers from a turret on a spaceship.
Hypnosis is a very real and well-documented phenomenon, and with enough resources dedicated to your personal hypnosis, it is inevitable you will be hypnotized. A human body cannot resist a powertool penetrating his skull, and the same is true when subjected to enough hypnotic engineering. Ever been sucked into a TV show that you had no intention of watching? That already is an example of advanced hypnotic engineering. But the purpose of entertainment is ultimately to sell you a packaged deal, or a finished product. The purpose of Meta, on the other hand, is an ongoing immersive experience. Through the collaborative and competitive efforts of millions, the denizens of the metaverse will build a hypnotically-engineered society where people will interact on the basis of a dreamscape rather than how they feel about more mundane affairs.
This means we are building our presence in the metaverse right now, and have been for some time. I have friends on social media who dwarf the presence of dozens of others; they will know exactly what to do to build a presence on Meta. But from here on out, we’ll be doing this with full situational awareness: we are going to be exposing our networks to images and words that are not simply jokes or opinions, but a part of our share in meta property. At first, our presence will only be established in a dreamscape; but eventually, real human beings will walk up to me and address me as none other than: “Lord David.” Right now we are limited by what our immediate friends and neighbors can see. But as the good book tells us: “All hard work yields a profit,” meaning it is inevitable that our finely crafted presence online will yield property in the evolving meta experience.
